Holika Holika Oil Queen Cotton Powder Review

Summer is here! That means matte faces for most people, so today let’s take a look at a powder that is supposed to keep us from not looking like a disco ball ^^
I didn’t fully understand that this was a loose powder first but it doesn’t really matter. Cute packaging right? You get 5g of product.
Comes with a soft puff that actually picks up product really well. But I use my powder brush to swipe it all over my face instead of tapping for ages with the small puff…
There is the regular plastic thingy cover with holes that comes with most loose powders.
If you remove the cover you get a better look at the powder. Let me just tell you this… it’s ridiculously fine, like for real. Which I actually really like. I like to think that the finer the powder, the less cakey it’s gonna get. Especially when it comes to loose powders at least :j
It actually smells really nice too. Can’t really describe it but it’s a pleasant smell.
A little swatch! Looks a bit scary since it is so white I know, but it is more translucent when you apply it, unless you apply too much ofc.
See? It gives a more “brightening” effect once it’s blended out. Doesn’t really show up on the face to be honest, but at least it’s translucent when fully blended and you don’t need to apply much either.
Now, my thoughts.
To be honest I’m not really sure if I like this or not… It gives a gorgeous velvet matte finish and my skin feels soft like a marshmallow, not even kidding.
The problem however is the staying power.. On my bare face with Etude’s Sebum Control mist before, hardly over an hour.. And with sebum control mist, bb cream and Skinfood’s Red Orange setting spray, hardly more than three…  And now we’re talking my oily t-zone. Not the rest of my face.
Okay sure, you can’t expect magic from a 5$ powder but still… Since it’s only function is to mattify, I still had higher hopes for this. It could be the weather, my skin at the moment or something else but unfortunately not very impressed with the staying power.
Another positive aspect though, is that it’s a beautiful blotting powder! Perhaps in the pact form instead since you don’t really carry a loose powder with you but still, it’s comparable to M.A.C’s blotting powder to be honest. I used to swear by that before but I don’t like the ingredients so I stopped buying it again once I ran out of it. But my point is that this Holika one perhaps is better used as a blotting powder since it gives a soft and non-cakey finish! You might have to blot a different amount of times depending on your base makeup, skin condition, weather etc but you get my drift.
So I do recommend it as a cheaper dupe for M.A.C’s blotting powder but not as a setting powder unfortunately.
I hope this was helpful!
xx
